NEW PARLIAMENT CHAMBER SAGA: THE TRIUMPHANT GHANAIAN CANNOT AFFORD TO BE COMPLACENT.

NEW PARLIAMENT CHAMBER SAGA:
THE TRIUMPHANT GHANAIAN CANNOT AFFORD TO BE COMPLACENT.

The news of The President, Nana Akufo-Addo, acknowledging parliament's suspension of the building of a new 450 - seater Parliament Chamber estimated around $200 million came so obviously as a triumph for the majority of Ghanaians. The daring protest by Ghanaians mostly through social media against the Parliamentarians' ironical neglect of the welfare plight of their constituents was indeed commendable. #TripleSActivists, therefore, congratulate Ghanaians for demonstrating significant consciousness of the Insensitive Governance and Misplaced Priority.

In the letter issued by the Parliamentary Service declaring Parliament's suspension of the project, it is hoped that Ghanaians take note of the specifications in these statements; “... taken the development of the new chamber block out of its present agenda.” and “ remain an essential and integral part of the future plans of the legislature...”. Such immortal stature accorded the project may not rule out the possibility of its return in a manner better elusive than the earlier failed one. Though there are some defenses that seem to claim the project plan has not reached finality and so not deserving a fierce opposition, #TripleSActivists remain doubtful, and most so, as the alleged letter from Parliament inviting The President to a sod cutting for the Chamber project is yet to be disclaimed.

The above caution is to ensure Ghanaians remain focused on the main issue of Priority, in reinforcement of the immerging Public consciousness. Ghanaians protesting the New Parliament complex chamber made very detailed reference to the horrifying infrastructural deficit in basic amenities that borders on health, education, transport, electricity, water and sanitation. It is hence clear that any luxurious government project, such as the Chamber complex, cannot be accepted in the absence of significant improvement in the basic welfare of the majority of the people of Ghana.

As we prepare this statement, the news that Parliament begins a campaign to bring back the Chamber complex has reached us. The campaign is said to be primarily laced with the argument by the Honourable Majority leader of parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu when he challenged, “Let nobody tell me that not until maybe we are able to provide clothing for everybody, not until we are able to provide adequate housing to everybody these other things are luxuries”. The most possible response from Ghanaians is that the concern is not a demand for absolute fixing of the Ghanaians' deplorable situation. Ghanaians are better rational to suggest that. The concern rather is of a luxury far from a need gaining attention over an ocean of welfare challenges of majority of Ghanaians.

In conclusion, #TripleSActivists wishes to re-echo the call on Ghanaians to follow carefully and critically the second coming of this unacceptable offer. And give it the appropriate opposition it deserves.
The time of relentless Public Action against unfavourable whims of Politicians has come, and it is to stay.

Thank you.
